Vintage Doll

Caring For Your Vintage Doll

If you are collecting vintage dolls you will want to take good care of them to keep them in the best possible condition. Here we run through a list of do's and dont's to keep your vintage dolls in A1 condition!

If you are collecting vintage dolls purely as an investment for the future, then optimum storage conditions are achieved by carefully placing each doll in a white pillow case and standing them in a cupboard. Never store them in plastic, as moisture in the air will be trapped with them and may lead to a mould problem in time. Nor should you store your dolls wrapped in coloured cloth. Again, there may be moisture present in the air and the colour from the fabric may seep and tarnish your doll.

Most of us want our dolls somewhere we can see them so that we may enjoy our collection. They must be kept out of direct sunlight, otherwise they will quickly become faded.

Vintage dolls are highly susceptible to extremes of temperature and heat. They will need to gently dusted from time to time. You may use a little distilled water on a soft, white cloth (though not on wooden dolls) to remove any dirt, though it is important to never use soap or any kind of detergent. A hairdryer is useful to blow dust from hard to reach areas, though it must be used on a cool setting. Never try to mend your vintage doll or its clothes yourself. This could result in its value being drastically reduced or, in extreme cases, rendering the doll worthless. Doing nothing is always much better than doing something which cannot be undone!(EzineArticles.com)

Black Dolls

Buy Cheap Antique Black Dolls

Before, antique black dolls were offensive for some people. They see black dolls and think that these represent slavery. Truth of the matter is, they are fast becoming a collector's item - just like those antique porcelain dolls and antique bisque dolls.

In fact they are now part of a history that represents the social struggles of the African American. It may seem oppressive but it's not. Just like the dolls that are collected by the avid collectors, they tell a story and that's what makes it valuable for the collector.

Just like most dolls that are collected, the value is determined by their features. The dolls should have bright faces and must not have dull coloring on their bodies. If the antique black dolls are worn out, these may mean no value for the collector.

Also, just like the other collectibles, the more accurate the costumes are, the higher the value. If these antique black dolls do not represent the costume at that time, then they are less desirable. Antique black dolls that are found not in good condition are restored. It is very critical to know the restoration process in order to bring back the value of the dolls. Any collector would prefer that the dolls be in good conditions - whatever the color of their body is.

If the restoration has occurred, then the antique black dolls are considered to be a collectible. There are a lot of questions to ask before making the purchase. One must have a keen eye and check out the materials of the doll, as well as its clothing.

There are some antique black dolls that have been restored and modern materials have been used. For the avid collector, this is not as authentic as one would want, therefore the value must be less.

However, there are exceptions to every rule. If restoration has to be made, then the trims and the fabrics of the clothing that has been reproduced must at least be accurate with the period wherein the antique black dolls were made.

The appropriate integration of the history of these dolls is the most important thing. That is one of the reasons why they are collected in the first place. There are a lot of books and magazines about doll collecting and antique black doll collecting is already discussed.

One can trade information and obtain more tidbits about these hobby by reading as much as she can on the matter.(EzineArticles.com/?expert=Ricky_Lim)

Toys Dolls

Toy Dolls - Why Boys Should Also Get to Play With Toy Dolls

Most experts in child development agree that it is perfectly acceptable for a little boy to play with dolls, as much it is for a little girl. After all, both boys and girls see their parents or guardians looking after them, and acting on the natural desire to emulate those they respect and admire, try to mimic their actions using toy dolls.

It is a wonderful way for children to learn parenting basics, and gain a sense of responsibility. For parents, it can help them teach more unruly children how to their brothers and sisters, as well as other people outside of the family, such as schoolmates and friends.

It is only society which has dictated that girls play with dolls and boys play with trucks, trains, and cars. Parental fear of their little boy turning "gay" because he played with toy dolls" is one of the most common amongst parents, many of which teach their sons - wrongly - to be ashamed of their desire to care for a baby.

By watching your son or daughter playing with toys dolls you can also see how they view your treatment of them. Usually their own treatment of their toy doll reflects how you interact with them. Seeing a child treat their doll with love, affection, and caring, clearly indicates they are treated with the same. If they tell them "I love you!" many times, then obviously you as a parent, tell them too.

It is only by demonstration that children learn the right way to treat others. It is not right to take away the tool with which they practise this simply because of their gender.(EzineArticles.com)

Scary Dolls

Tips For Choosing a Scary Doll on eBay

Everyone has seen a doll at some time that just gave them the creeps. Maybe it was a toy you received when you were small that scared you at night or maybe it was something you saw in an antique shop as an adult. These toys just seem to have something ominous about them.

No matter how creepy they are they all seem to find a home on eBay. Scary Dolls are very popular with the online auction crowd. They can be delicate antiques or Barbies from just a few years ago, but what they all have in common is a good story.
The story usually involves a child who passed on much too soon. The doll may have been a favorite possession or possibly the child's new home in the after life. Imagine spending eternity inside a plastic doll.

It doesn't even have to be scary dolls, I've seen teddy bears, bunnies and especially clowns all haunted and all selling on eBay. Although the dolls are usually harmless and gentle, the other toys can be down right scary.

Teddy bears and other stuffed animals usually have claws and teeth that only come out at night. This makes them interesting companions for the believers out there.
Clowns are the worst type of doll. They can be scary in the most ordinary circumstances, but once you get the idea that they're haunted they can be terrifying.

The evidence of doll hauntings can differ widely, but they do seem to have some qualities in common. The eyes are said to move in almost every doll haunting, sometimes the head twirls too. The doll often changes expression and can move from room to room. Household pets can be scared of or drawn to the doll or stuffed animal.
Children who come in contact with these dolls report that the dolls can talk to them. Adults sometimes hear these conversations too.

Although scary Dolls are harmless and even protective most of the time, some of them like the clowns, can be sinister and even dangerous.

The story behind your scary Doll is very important. Be sure you understand everything about a doll before you buy one. Most importantly don't buy a scary Doll just because it's haunted. Buy it because you love it and want to have it in your home as a companion. This way you can be sure that no matter what type of activity you experience or don't experience you will still be happy with your purchase and your new friend.(EzineArticles.com)
